John Hunter Children’s Hospital is the proud beneficiary of six new humidifiers, thanks to the generosity of a Newcastle company.
Hitachi Construction Machinery donated the AIRVO 3 units, valued at $52,920, to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit on Thursday 29 August.
Humidification is important for babies and youngsters suffering from respiratory problems, such as bronchitis, pneumonia and cystic fibrosis.
The dampened air and oxygen help them breathe restfully and clears the chest for ongoing treatment and recovery.
Hitachi Construction Machinery Newcastle branch coordinator Joshua Chesmore said they were more than happy to support the Humpty Dumpty Foundation, the largest charitable supplier of children’s medical equipment and health initiatives in the nation.
“We aim to be a provider and employer of choice… and actively engage with the communities in our dealership network,” he explained.
“By assisting the Humpty Dumpty Foundation, we have an opportunity to deliver much-needed medical equipment to hospitals where our employees and their families and friends live.
“We’re also able to be a part of improving accessibility to healthcare to paediatric wards.”
Since 2012, Hitachi Construction Machinery has bestowed 10 pieces of equipment to John Hunter Children’s Hospital.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Hitachi again on this occasion,” Humpty Dumpty Foundation CEO and managing director Claire Reaney said.
“The six AIRVO 3 humidifiers are a wonderful addition to a specialised tertiary referral paediatric hospital providing complex medical, surgical and major trauma and neonatal services.
“Not only is this equipment state-of-the-art and fit-for-purpose, it will also help to continue ensuring the most positive health outcomes are achieved for children in the region.”
For more than 30 years, the Humpty Dumpty Foundation and its supporters have provided lifesaving medical apparatus and healthcare initiatives, totalling almost $100 million, for sick babies and youngsters in about 500 hospitals and health services across Australia.
