Jets share points

Newcastle fought back to claim a 1-all draw against the Mariners in the F3 Derby at Central Coast Stadium on Saturday night.

The Jets fell behind in the fourth minute when Serbian Milan Duric struck a superb volley past Newcastle goalkeeper Glen Moss.

A second half handball saw Dimi Petratos step up to the spot, only for Mark Birighitti to save his penalty attempt.

However, the Video Assistant Referee ruled Birighitti had moved off his line and Petratos buried the retake.

“I remember asking the question about how pedantic they were going to be about that, so they made a call that he’d come off the line,” Mariners coach Alen Stajic said.

“I suppose they do it every single time now, if a keeper saves it, every single pen will be retaken.”
It was the Jets’ first match of the 2019/20 A-League campaign. The club had a bye in round one due to a new 11-team competition.

Newcastle will face Adelaide at McDonald Jones Stadium this Saturday 26 October from 5pm.
