Newcastle will be on the hunt for its first win of the A-League campaign against defending champions Perth Glory at McDonald Jones Stadium this weekend.
Following a bye in round one, the Jets went on to draw 1-all with Central Coast before suffering back-to-back defeats to Adelaide United and Sydney FC.
The Sky Blues proved too strong at Leichhardt Oval in round four, claiming a dominant 4-1 win to leave Newcastle in second last position.
Sydney FC striker Milos Ninkovic opened the scoring with just six minutes played and, despite the early setback, the Jets responded immediately as Matt Millar levelled proceedings.
After initially winning the freekick in a dangerous area, Millar rose highest to power home a header from a pinpoint Dimi Petratos cross to put the Jets back on level terms.
However, Sydney took the lead again before halftime when Rhyan Grant’s low cross from the right steered home by Adam Le Fondre in the 42nd minute.
The hosts extended their lead shortly after the break via a Johnny Koutroumbis own goal minute, and Kosta Barberouses added a fourth past in the 65th minute.
Newcastle will face Perth this Saturday 9 November from 5pm.
