The good news continues to flow out of the Newcastle Jets this week.
After unveiling new owners Maverick Sports Partners on Tuesday, it’s understood Melbourne Victory’s Eli Adams and Perth Glory’s Aleksandar Susnjar have agreed to terms with the Hunter-based A-League organisation.
And, in a further boost, highly-talented local Ben van Dorssen signed a two-year scholarship deal.
“That’s extremely important for us, moving forward,” Maverick Sports Partners director Maurice Bisetto said.
“As a club, we need to recognise that we’re a pathway for a lot of young talent.”
Enter van Dorssen, a centre-back who can also play at right back or in defensive midfield.
He’s risen through the Jets Academy ranks from the age of nine.
More recently, he was part of a Young Socceroos (U20) training camp in Sydney.
“I’m really pleased to sign a scholarship deal with my hometown club,” van Dorssen said.
“This is something I have always dreamed of since joining the Jets in the under 9s at the Academy.
“I know the hard work has only just begun.
“But, I can’t wait to get started to develop my game even further here in Newcastle.”
Coach Rob Stanton welcomed van Dorssen to the fold.
“I’ve been hugely-impressed with Ben’s work rate and application to training since I have been here at the club,” he said.
“I have monitored his progress closely with the Youth side this season with coach Damian Zane.
“So, I’m excited to bring through another local talent.
“Ben has already spent a large amount of time training with the ALM team environment since returning from injury.
“I’m happy to reward him with a scholarship deal and see him transition into A-League level.”
While the men’s squad will return for pre-season training on 24 June, Newcastle Jets memberships for 2024/25 are now available for renewal or purchase.
