We’ve all the heard the Albert Einstein quote, “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result”.
So, you can either certify me crazy or label me a glutton for punishment because I find myself repeating the mistakes of the past where my two-year-old is concerned, over and over and over again.
The repeat off ending situation? I want to get out of the house – and she does not.
I know my idea to get out of our apartment is way better than her idea of… staying in the apartment and even though we have daily adventures outside, sometimes the lure of all her toys is just too strong to coax her outdoors.
Maybe it’s the stubborn Aries in me (going up against the stubborn Scorpio in her) that refuses to bend to the will of a toddler, but the toys will always be there.
This beautiful weather or this afternoon’s adventure won’t. Cabin fever is a real thing people.
So, a struggle, a grapple, a negotiation, a tug-of-war ensues more often than not, and instead of giving up – we battle it to the car until we’re strapped in and The Quokkas (Newy’s answer to The Wiggles) is pumping through the sound system.
Now you’re probably thinking, “how bad are these so-called adventures that your daughter seems so reluctant to head out?”
I swear once we’re out and about, they USUALLY end with big smiles and another thousand photos to add to my gallery but after my last snafu, maybe that is a fair question.
It was a Saturday afternoon, my husband was working, and I thought, “you know what could be fun, a trampoline park”.
Lucia loves jumping on the bed, she loves the in-ground trampolines at playgrounds.
So, after the rigmarole of getting her in the car and away – we arrive – at 2pm on a Saturday… only to be met with the banshee screams of forty or fifty 8-10 year olds there for various birthday parties and hopped-up on, what I can only assume, was all the Fanta and birthday cake in New South Wales.
I kid you not, we took one step into the place (after I’d paid of course) and Lucia, clear as day, eyes as wide as saucers, said “HOME!”
Scared out of her mind at this intense energy, I’ll admit, so was I.
Note to self, adventures on a Saturday afternoon should be limited to wide, open spaces that are not popular with children’s birthday parties.
