Is St Philip’s Christian College Maitland bound?

SHARE

Is St Philip’s Christian College looking to expand its scholastic footprint in the Hunter Valley?

That’s the question everyone’s asking after Maitland City Council received a proposal from the educational establishment to purchase operational land at Lot 14 Liddell Avenue, Aberglasslyn.

In council’s minutes, from the 22 February meeting, it states a report was submitted with an overview of the offer and implications, opening the door for further negotiations to continue between the two parties.

However, the item moved behind closed doors under the terms of the Local Government Act 1993 Section 10A (2).

Unfortunately, the Newcastle Weekly cannot divulge St Philip’s Christian College’s plans for the vacant parcel of property at this stage, despite several attempts to contact those behind the application.

The organisation already boasts schools in Newcastle, Cessnock, Port Stephens and Gosford, catering to students from pre-Kindergarten to tertiary learning.

They, according to the website, maintain high academic and behavioural standards while keeping the truth of the Christian gospel at its core.

Other facilities in the fold include St Philip’s Christian College DALE (Dynamic Alternative Learning Environment) for pupils who have autism spectrum disorder – with campuses at Waratah, Cessnock and Gosford; St Philip’s Christian College DALE Young Parents School in Newcastle and Wyong; Narnia Early Learning; and St Philip’s Teaching School.

Maitland City mayor Philip Penfold hailed St Philip’s Christian College’s interest in the region as a positive move.

“If a sale of the small Aberglasslyn land parcel proceeds with St Philip’s Christian College, and they choose to construct a new school, it will be very welcome news for the people of Maitland,” he stated.

“Not only for those who choose to attend the school, though for the pressure it removes from other local school populations.”
