Is it a boat, is it a plane? Float Your Boat lead revealed

SHARE

Thousands of lights projecting an aerobatic plane preparing to perform in the World Air Race will kickstart Lake Macquarie’s Float Your Boat festival this weekend.

The boat, disguised as a plane, will lead a succession of vivid vessels across the iconic watery landmark during the annual two-day event.

A red kangaroo, sea eagle, spaceship, tiger and cowboy riding a marlin are also set to impress crowds as they gather on the lake’s foreshore.

Trinity Point Water Taxi’s Sam Luker says his team were adding the final touches to their vessel – a water taxi disguised as a road taxi – before their debut performance.

“Ideally, we will have glowing wheels that propel as they hit the water,” he said.

“This is the first time we will be using the water taxi at the event, which will be great to be part of the community.”

The flotilla will set sail from Marmong Point Marina on Friday and Saturday night, travelling to Wangi Wangi on the Friday and Belmont 16s on the Saturday.

This year’s event will include a range of shore-based activities, including a live-site at Royal Motor Yacht Club Toronto on Friday night and Warners Bay on Saturday night.

Both sites will run from 6-9.30pm and feature local musicians and performers, entertainment, food trucks and children’s activities.

Lake Macquarie City mayor Kay Fraser said the event would be one of the best the community has ever seen.

“The weather is looking exceptional with two sunny days forecast for Friday and Saturday, so I am encouraging families and friends to come out and enjoy all Float Your Boat has to offer.”
