An investigation is currently underway after police deemed a fire at a gym in Wickham overnight as suspicious.
Emergency services were called to Air Locker Newcastle on Albert Street about 12.03am on Friday 23 January following reports of a blaze at the premises.
It’s believed eight Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) trucks and more than 30 firefighters attended the scene, only to find thick smoke pouring from the ground floor of the two-storey building.
They then managed to bring the fire under control before 2am.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported, however the ground floor of the structure suffered water and smoke damage.
A FRNSW Fire Rescue and Investigation Unit is looking into the cause of the incident.
