An investigation is underway after a 36-year-old man was shot by police during an arrest in Newcastle on Tuesday morning.
The Northern Operations Support Group and Northern Region Domestic Violence High Risk Offender Team attended a unit block on Honeysuckle Drive about 8.30am on 3 March.
It’s believed they were there to take the male, sought for five outstanding arrest warrants, into custody.
They forced entry into the premises when the man confronted them, allegedly armed with an edged weapon.
Two tasers were then deployed.
However, both were ineffective.
The 36-year-old allegedly continued threatening officers with the edged weapon before he was shot in the shoulder.
He was taken under police guard to the John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.
Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are underway by Newcastle City Police District.
