Interest sought for Newcastle Logistics Precinct project

SHARE

As plans progress for the Newcastle Logistics Precinct, companies are being invited to register their interest in a new project at the Port of Newcastle (PoN).

EnergyCo is seeking registrations for a tender to design and build an open-air storage facility that will support the delivery of renewable energy projects across NSW.

The precinct, to be located next to the PoN, will expand portside storage capacity for oversized equipment including wind turbines and transformers required to build the infrastructure.

Registrations for the tender process close on 17 April, with shortlisted applicants to move through to the Expression of Interest (EOI) stage in May.

The major venture forms part of the state’s broader electricity system upgrade and is set to generate jobs while creating opportunities for local businesses to secure work.

EnergyCo executive director project interface and strategic coordination Azaria Dobson said early engagement with industry had helped shape how the undertaking would be delivered.

“The Newcastle Logistics Precinct is the gateway to our energy transformation,” she explained.

“Our early market engagement has informed how we package delivery of the it… and we are expecting strong interest.”

EnergyCo will also host an industry briefing in August to connect smaller regional construction businesses with shortlisted tenderers, providing an opportunity for companies across the Hunter to collaborate and explore how they can be involved.

Ms Dobson said the project was focused on ensuring regional communities benefited as the energy system evolved.

“We are always looking for ways to maximise regional benefits as we transform the energy system,” she added.

The Newcastle Logistics Precinct is one of several projects planned for the Hunter region as part of the transition of the state’s electricity network.

The development is subject to planning and environmental approvals, with an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and public exhibition expected later this year.

Once complete, the precinct will act as a key hub supporting the rollout of renewable energy infrastructure, helping deliver reliable and affordable energy to homes and businesses across NSW.

The procurement process is expected to continue throughout 2026, with the formal request for tender stage anticipated to begin in early 2027.
