On-site inspections will take place at Calvary Mater Newcastle from next week to evaluate some of the issues, which have continually plagued the facility.
The NSW Government is undertaking an independent assessment of building infrastructure including heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems (HVAC) at the Waratah hospital.
It forms part of the state’s commitment to expedite building works, and other matters, at the site, such as replacing the non-compliant cladding on the external façade with new materials that meet current safety and performance standards.
“The independent assessments include an audit of the HVAC systems and developing a detailed building condition report, assessing the condition of buildings across the Mater campus,” Minister for Health Ryan Park said.
“Inspections will begin on Monday 16 March and continue for several weeks.
“The full building audit report is expected to be completed later this year.
“In the meantime, cladding replacement works are progressing, with installation of the first panels scheduled to start next week, too, following completion of site establishment activities.
“The NSW Government remains committed to ensuring the continued safety, functionality and reliability of the Mater campus, which will continue to operate during the works.
“Health Infrastructure is working closely with the building contractor, Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) and the Calvary Mater Newcastle team to coordinate construction activities and minimise disruption to patients, staff and visitors, as well as nearby residents, businesses and road users while remediation progresses.”
