Incubator celebrates two years

In just a few weeks, The Creator Incubator will celebrate its second birthday.
It’s hard to believe it was just two years ago that curator Braddon Snape received the keys to Shed15A from David Saddington.

He says sometimes it feels as if it were longer, and other times it feels as if it were last month.

The Creator Incubator (TCI) was launched in May 2017 in Hamilton North with nine creators and makers, including Snape, and now houses 28.

It has been quite the rollercoaster ride, but it is a ride Snape has loved sharing with an incredible group of talented creators.

It is good to stop, reflect and appreciate how far TCI has come in these two years.

In that time, it has hosted 18 exhibitions in the gallery, 12 theatre performances and events, numerous workshops and had over 6,500 visitors walk through the doors of Shed15A.

TCI has partnered with Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery, Timeless Textiles and The Lock Up.

As a partner in Independent Galleries Newcastle (IGN), it has participated in the inaugural IGN ART FAIR at Newcastle Art Gallery and held a TCI exhibition at Scratch Art Space in Sydney.

TCI artists and creators have been recipients of art and design prizes, individual commissions and have exhibited widely.

It wouldn’t be a birthday without a celebration, and TCI would love for you to join them at the Clyde Street shed on Saturday 4 May, from 4pm to 8pm, for festivities and the opening of the latest exhibition, Free Range.

Ken O’Regan will coordinate kids’ activities, Blue Tide and The Alligators will bring the music, the Bao Bros Food Van will be on-site, and drinks will be supplied by Murray’s Brewing Co. and Scarborough Wine Co.
