In two places

SHARE

Some people know Leslie Duffin as the owner and director of Finite Gallery at Caves Beach; others know her as a studio artist at The Creator Incubator in Hamilton North.

By holding two concurrent solo exhibitions of her paintings, Leslie hopes to demonstrate the link between the two facets of her practice.

This link was forged long before The Creator Incubator came into being. Leslie’s first studio after leaving art school in 2012 was adjacent to her current studio in a shed at 50 Clyde Street, Hamilton North.

After a chat with the landlord, Leslie was invited to use the old service station at Caves Beach as a gallery and venue for art classes and workshops, and so Finite Gallery began. Although the former station has been gone for four years, Finite Gallery continues to thrive in its new premises across the road from the former site. The gallery holds classes for children after school and in the school holidays, while it also has regular adult classes and workshops across a range of media.

Leslie spends two days a week in her studio (more when she can) and four-and-a-half days each week in her gallery.

She completed an Advanced Diploma of Fine Art in 2012 and has a Certificate in Ceramics and is a qualified Early Childhood teacher. Since leaving art school, she has encouraged others to experience the joy of creativity through Finite Gallery’s exhibition and class program.

Leslie will be holding concurrent solo exhibitions at Finite Gallery and The Creator Incubator Gallery from 16 to 25 August.

The botanical theme of the exhibitions is carried across both spaces. Leslie has painted the plants given as gifts and cuttings from friends – a living link between two places and two people.
