Iffland’s perfect season

Australia’s Rhiannan Iffland has become the first Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series diver to go unbeaten for an entire season.

The Lake Macquarie athlete won her seventh stop in a row at Bilbao, Spain, from the 21-metre platform at the weekend to wrap up her fourth straight title.

Known as the ‘Dominator from Down Under’, Iffland ended the 2019 campaign on 1,200 points, well clear of Great Britain’s Jessica Macaulay on 670 and third-placed Canadian Lysanne Richard, who recorded 660 points.

“I’m still pinching myself really,” Iffland said.
“This year was amazing for me and I just want to keep this confidence going.

“I want to keep enjoying the sport a much as I have this season.”

In the men’s competition, England’s Gary Hunt claimed his fifth win of the season ahead of Mexican Jonathan Paredes and fellow Brit Aidan Heslop.

Hunt, like Iffland, had already won the title prior to the final event, and finished on a total of 1,160 points, with Paredes in second and American Andy Jones in third.
