Hunter Valley winery tours drive a new market

SHARE

A new business has launched in the Hunter Valley, with its owner hoping it will drive luxury tourism within the $2.4 billion industry.

Offering an experience, the first of its kind in Australia’s oldest wine region, Hunter Tesla Tours boasts locally owned and operated tours of the wine region in a Tesla X.

“Eco-friendly and ultra-luxury” is how owner Leigh Watson describes his unique tours.

Hunter Tesla Tours: Tesla X

Hunter Valley born and bred, with experience in both wine production and sales, and tour guiding, Leigh says the Tesla X offered a distinct VIP experience like no other.

“The Tesla X is an all-electric luxurious vehicle with modern features and a sexy exterior,” he explained.

“It would be my pleasure to help organise your special day touring the Hunter Valley in a luxurious and spacious Tesla X, wining, dining and enjoying the finer things in life.”

Leigh also claims to be able to provide access to exclusive tables at the best local restaurants.

“My history in the Hunter Valley provides VIP-style access to private cellar-doors and award-winning winemakers.”

He worked at the old Rothbury Estate for 12 years, in both sales and as a winery tour guide.

Hunter Tesla Tours will be offering half or full-day tours with pick up in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland or Hunter Valley, wine tasting and light snacks.

Four or eight-hour tours are available and priced $400 or $700 respectively for up to five passengers.

They will also be offering hampers made to order.

“World-class wines and fine foods are not just good for the palette, they’re essential for the soul,” Leigh says.

The Hunter Valley attracts more than eight million visitors each year.

There are currently just over 12,000 Tesla vehicles circulating in Australia, with the average price $112,000.

Tesla Model X has a 100 kWh battery, delivering an estimated driving distance of 565 km.

Pokolbin has its own electric vehicle charging station located at Kirkton Park Hunter Valley.
