Forecast wet weather could hamper Transport for NSW (TfNSW) plans to continue work on the M1 to Raymond Terrace – Black Hill to Tomago project this week.
Although rain is predicted over the coming days, crews are slated to be on site at the following locations:
- From 7pm to 5am on Monday 10 March, Tuesday 11 March and Thursday 13 March, the eastbound off-ramp from the New England Highway to Anderson Drive will be closed with a detour in place via New England Highway/Maitland Road
- From the night of Monday 10 March, Pacific Highway southbound traffic is being diverted onto a section of the new road between Heatherbrae and Old Punt Road

Operators of over-size and/or over-mass (OSOM) vehicles with a ground contact wider than 3.2 metres or overall width greater than 4.5 metres are advised to contact the project team on 0423 323 946 at least one day ahead of proposed movement.
Significant delays can occur if they fail to do so.
Major construction resumes across the remainder of the project from 7am to 6pm weekdays and from 8am to 5pm Saturday, as well as out of hours from 7pm to 5am weeknights.
The work will also require lane closures with intermittent stoppages and temporary speed reductions to 40km/h at the following locations and times:
From 7pm to 5am, on the nights of Monday 10 March to Friday 14 March:
- M1 Pacific Motorway at Beresfield and Black Hill
- John Renshaw Drive at Beresfield
- New England Highway at Tarro
- Pacific Highway at Tomago and Heatherbrae
From 7am to 5pm, Monday 10 March to Friday 14 March:
- Lenaghans Drive at Black Hill
- Old Punt Road near Pacific Highway at Tomago
- New England Highway Eastbound at Tarro
Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and follow the directions of signs.

Putty Road, Howes Valley
TfNSW will carry out work at several locations on Putty Road, at Garland Valley and Howes Valley, to repair slopes damaged during a severe weather event in June 2022, resulting in multiple landslips.
It’ll start from Monday 10 March, from 7am to 6pm, and, if required, Saturdays from 8am to 1pm over the next eight weeks.
Single lane closures with stop/slow, and a reduced 40km/h speed limit, will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists, who may experience short delays.
Maitland Road, Hexham
Work continues along the Hexham Straight Widening project.
To minimise the impact, it’ll take place overnight from 7pm to 5am.
- Contraflow arrangements for inbound and outbound traffic on Maitland Road from Sparke Street to north of Shamrock Street on Monday 10 March. There will be a blackout to traffic lights at the intersection of Maitland Road and Shamrock Street on Monday 10 March
- Lane closure and a temporary reduced speed of 40km/h are scheduled on the outbound lanes of Maitland Road from Newcastle Inner City Bypass to north of Old Maitland Road, Sandgate, from Monday 10 March to Thursday 13 March
- Until Thursday 13 March, the left turn lane into Old Maitland Road will be temporarily restricted. Vehicles travelling northbound from Newcastle will need to turn around using the U-turn facility 200m north of Old Maitland Road, and access Old Maitland Road from the southbound direction.
A temporary speed limit of 60km/h will remain in place through the project work zone during the day, dropping to 40km/h at night.
OSOM operators are advised the project operates on UHF channel 45.
Major work also resumes from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday; 7pm to 7am Sunday to Thursday; and 8am to 1pm on Saturday.
