The Hunter Valley has registered its second motorcycle fatality in as many days over the Australia Day long weekend.
Emergency services responded to reports of a crash between a bike and a Toyota Hilux along Putty Road, Howes Valley, approximately 50km south-west of Singleton, about 10.35am on Monday 26 January.
Tragically, the rider – a 21-year-old man – died prior to their arrival.
The 48-year-old male driver of the Hilux was uninjured but taken to Singleton Hospital for mandatory testing.
Officers from Hunter Valley Police District have started an investigation into the incident.
Anyone with information – or was in the area at the time who has dashcam/mobile phone footage – is urged to contact Singleton Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
It’s expected Putty Road, between Putty and Milbrodale, will be closed for a considerable period, so motorists are urged to avoid the area.
It comes after another motorcyclist died near Cessnock on Sunday morning.
Emergency services were called to Sandy Creek Road, Mount Vincent, about 8.30am on 25 January.
Officers from Hunter Valley Police District arrived to find a bike had left the roadway and hit a tree.
The rider – a man believed to be aged in his 60s – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for serious injuries.
Sadly, he died at the scene.
Police are still investigating the incident.
