COVID-19 case numbers in the Hunter are continuing to rise as 13 new infections were detected yesterday.

Eight are from the Port Stephens LGA, four are in Lake Macquarie and one is in Singleton.

In Port Stephens, unlinked cases in Anna Bay and Soldiers Point are causing concern while discoveries in Fingal Bay (2) and Heatherbrae were isolating. The cases in Fern Bay, Shoal Bay and Nelson Bay were infectious in the community.

The four in Lake Macquarie are in Wyee in Point (3) and Murrays Beach. The Wyee Point infections were in the community and the Murrays Beach case is unlinked and their infectious status in unknown.

The Singleton community is on high alert as the case discovered yesterday is unlinked and was infectious in the community.

This is the first case discovered in that LGA and the Hunter New England Local Health District is undertaking contact tracing and risk assessments to identify all close and casual contacts and any exposure sites that would be a risk to the Singleton community.

Anyone with the mildest of symptoms in that region has been urged to come forward for testing. A new all-age facility is opening today at Singleton in the Alroy Oval Carpark from 7.30am to 3pm.

Overall, eight of the cases are linked to known exposures or family clusters, including the Motto Farm site.

There are currently 138 active cases in the district with 10 people requiring care in hospital.

NSW recorded 1,542 new locally acquired cases and nine more deaths overnight.

The deaths include a man in his 30s, a woman in her 40s, two people in their 50s, two in their 60s, two in their 70s and a woman in her 80s.

Three were fully vaccinated, three had one dose and three were unvaccinated.

There are more than 410 testing clinics open across NSW. For a complete list and booking details, please visit: health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/covid-19/Pages/clinics.aspx
