Hunter Netball: Metro girls keen to end season on a high

SHARE

Hunter Netball will attempt to wrap up its Netball NSW Dooleys Metro League season on a high on Monday night.

With one round remaining, 2023 has been a major learning curve for the locals, who’ve celebrated three wins and a draw in the Sydney-based competition.

But, they have also provided stern opposition in most matches and been gallant in defeat.

It was a similar scenario in their most recent outing, which ended in a 53-42 loss to the fourth-placed Northern Suburbs.

The hosts led 13-8 before extending that margin by nine, 25-16, at half-time.

Hunter Netball then outscored its rivals, 14-12, in the third quarter to trail 37-30.

However, Northern flexed its muscle again in the final term to claim victory.

“Over the past few weeks, we have really focussed on executing the fundamentals, sticking to our game plan and communicating,” coach Lexi Unicomb said.

“Monday was a step up from our previous encounters and there was improvement from each and every player right across the court.

“It’s been a long journey.

“We’ve had almost a year’s worth of training.

“So, with Monday being our last game, the team is excited to play one final match and push for the best outcome.”

Unicomb was quick to praise Hunter Netball’s loyal followers, too.

“The girls and I would like to thank all of our supporters who continue to show up each week,” she said.

“It is a massive commitment, but your support has meant everything.”

Hunter Netball faces second-placed Randwick at Netball Central, Homebush, from 8.30pm on 21 August.
