Hunter man charged after breaking self-isolation order


Police have charged a 49-year-old Nelson Bay man with breaching a COVID-19 Public Health Order this morning.

The man was stopped at a checkpoint on the Hume Highway near the Victorian border at 9:30pm on Monday night.

He had travelled into Victoria on Saturday 1 August, without a permit to re-enter NSW.

After conducting various inquiries Police found the man had previously re-entered NSW on 19 July and was directed to self-isolate at his Nelson bay home.

On 23 July when local police conducted a compliance check on the man he could not be found.

Police also allege that the man became aggressive and argumentative when arrested, resisting police and refusing to comply with directions.

The man has been taken to Albury Police Station.
