Hunter locals to appear on The Block 2021

SHARE

When Hunter residents tune into this year’s season of Channel 9’s The Block they may recognise a couple of the contestants.

Kurri Kurri raised country singer Kirsty Lee Akers and videographer Jesse Anderson are taking on the “wild-west challenge of epic proportions”.

Now living in Wangi Wangi, they are no strangers to a challenge.

The pair, who were married in 2014, have been involved in renovating since they were teenagers.

The unsuspecting yet hopeful couple is one of three that will come face to face with two sets of all-star couples in a setting never attempted before – a traditional Australian cul de-sac, in the Melbourne bayside suburb of Hampton.

The couples that are returning this year are Perth’s Ronnie and Georgia from the 2017 Elsternwick series, and Sydney couple Mitch and Mark from the 2019 Oslo series.

The final pairs are Josh and Luke, who made their television debut on Love Island Australia in 2019 and Melbourne parents Tanya and Vito.

This time round they have created a major twist – for the first time, there will be no house plans for contestants to work off.

The “Blockheads” have to design the layout and inclusions of their houses themselves from scratch.

Host Scott Cam, who returns to front his 15th season believes it is one not to be missed.

“Expect the unexpected,” he said.

“This build was extremely tough to plan and work out where things would go for many of our contestants because of this new twist. The plans have been thrown out the window and it leads to plenty of stuff-ups.

“The Fans have everything to gain and the Faves have reputations to uphold. This will be a dramatic showdown like we have never seen before.”
