Hundreds excited to take part in this year’s Hunter Memory Walk & Jog

SHARE

The countdown is on… at 8am tomorrow (Sunday 27 March) hundreds of locals will make their way to Speers Point Park for the Hunter Memory Walk & Jog.

They’ll meet Dementia Australia at the starting line for their biggest annual fundraiser.

It’s not too late to sign up, you can head to the event and register for the two-kilometre, eight-kilometre or timed eight-kilometre adventures.

The charity’s CEO Maree McCabe AM is encouraging everyone to step to it and get behind the initiative – so far 753 people have registered for the event.

“We are so lucky to have enjoyed such outstanding community support at our Memory Walk & Jog events across the country over the years,” she said.

“This support has allowed us to bring the event to an ever-growing number of locations.

“As we prepare to host the Memory Walk & Jog in the Hunter for another successful year, we hope everyone will consider joining us to raise our national target of $1.7 million, which we hope to achieve through the participation of 11,500 people across the series.”

The Hunter event is one of 19 scheduled at various locations around the country.

Participants can register as an individual or an entire team, to remember a loved one with dementia, or in support of a loved one who is currently living with the condition.

“The course is family-friendly, and no matter your age or level of fitness we encourage you to participate and join in the fun,” Ms McCabe said.

“Everyone is welcome, and together we can make the world look brighter for people with dementia.”

If you can’t attend the event, you can organise your own group or an individual walk with their My Way or Walk & Jog Impossible Challenge.
