It’s been a horror weekend for motorcyclists, with two fatalities throughout the Hunter in the space of a handful of hours.
One rider was killed in Newcastle on Saturday, while another lost his life near Kurri Kurri later that afternoon.
Emergency services were called to Clyde Street, Hamilton North, about 7.15am on 11 July.
Officers attached to Newcastle City Police District found a motorcycle had crashed into a fence.
Sadly, the rider – a 55-year-old man – died at the scene.
Then, about 2.45pm, emergency services responded to a crash on Leggetts Drive, Pelaw Main.
On arrival, officers attached to Hunter Valley Police District discovered a car and a bike had collided.
The rider – a man aged 58 – was treated at the scene by first responders and NSW Ambulance Paramedics.
But, tragically, he could not be revived.
The 72-year-old female driver of the vehicle, a Mitsubish Mirage, was taken to John Hunter Hospital for mandatory testing.
Police have started investigations into the circumstances of the accidents.
They will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner for both incidents.
