Hometown native Pat Doherty returns to Newcastle Comedy Club

After making it in the “big city”, hometown native Pat Doherty is returning to the Newcastle Comedy Club next month.

He’ll hit the stage alongside Alia Lievore, Aleks Milinkovic, Billy Darcy and Sam Bowden on Thursday 29 September.

After more than two years of COVID preventing them from reaching not just regional towns, but their families, the quintet will head to their respective “homes” throughout the tour to say “thank you”.

“This is a local, regional-focused show that you don’t want to miss,” Doherty said.

“And, if the steel city appreciates anything, it’s rugby league, coal and the fine art of stand-up comedy.

“As fellow comedian, and the only City slicker in the group, Sam Bowden told me, ‘he can’t wait to see what trees look like’.

“He’s also someone who wears boots and a cowboy hat but has never come within 500km of a stockyard.”

Co-founder of Live Seats, the team behind the event, Jordan Michaelides predicts it will be a wild night at the Newcastle Comedy Club.

“The pandemic ruined the touring circuit for many of us over the past two years,” she said.

“Destroying the livelihoods of our acts, as well as disconnecting regional centres and hubs from the acts they deserved.

“For our touring group, this is a sentimental return to their individual heartlands of the Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, Newcastle and Wollongong.

“You can take the kids from the country, but you can’t take the country out of this lot.”
