HNELHD reports four COVID-19 related deaths

The Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) recorded another four COVID-19 related deaths overnight after a woman in her 80s from Cessnock, a woman in her 70s from Tamworth, a male in his 90s from Inverell and a man in his 80s from Lake Macquarie passed away.

It comes as the region reported 2,417 new cases.

Across the district, 91 people with COVID-19 are in hospital, including three in intensive care.

NSW as a whole reported 17,447 new infections and the deaths of 16 people with COVID-19 – nine men and seven women.

They were aged in their 70s, 80s, 90s and 100s.

Twelve people had received three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, one person had received two doses, one person had received one dose and two people were unvaccinated.

They were from Sydney, Wollongong, Goulburn, the Central West, Tamworth, Cessnock, Inverell, Lake Macquarie and Orange.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic to 2,657.

Across the state, there are currently 1,641 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, including 69 people in intensive care, 22 of whom require ventilation.

NSW Health continues to urge everyone to take four simple precautions to protect each other:

  • use a mask in indoor settings where you cannot maintain a safe physical distance from others
  • get your booster vaccine
  • get a test and isolate immediately if you have any COVID-19 symptoms
  • clean your hands regularly.
