The Hunter New England Local Health District’s (HNELHD) COVID-19 death toll is continuing to rise after an individual from the Hunter passed away with the virus.

It comes as the region reported 1,358 new cases in the past 24 hours. It includes 768 positive rapid antigen test results.

NSW as whole detected 10,698 infections while 31 people lost their lives – 21 men and 10 women aged in their 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. One was also 100.

Ten people who died had received three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, 18 people had received two doses, and three people were not vaccinated.

In NSW 2,494 COVID-19 cases have been admitted to hospital, including 160 people in intensive care, 75 of whom require ventilation.

Across the state 42.8% of adults have received their booster jab while 41.6% of children aged five to 11 have had one dose.

Booster vaccinations are now available for those aged 16 to 17 years old following advice from the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI).

It recommends a third shot of the Pfizer vaccine for all teenagers in this age bracket three months after their second dose.

If you are struggling to find a RAT and need to get tested for COVID-19 there are many testing locations open across NSW.
