High petrol price relief with Ruckus launch in Newcastle

SHARE

The company behind the Australian-first app, which offers motorists relief from high petrol prices, is set to launch in Newcastle this month.

And, five Hunter service stations – BP Hamilton, BP Wallsend, Ampol Cameron Park, BP Salt Ash and Caltex Kurri Kurri – will be among the inaugural participants.

Ruckus founder and chief of operations Mick Jarvie said locals could ignore the pump “costs” from now on.

“We don’t make any money by selling fuel,” he explained.

“You simply pay what we pay.

“The difference is you do it through our app at participating service stations.

“Newcastle will be the first Australian city where we have unveiled multiple Ruckus sites.

“That means there is a location in the centre of town, as well as for commuters travelling north or south.”

It’s contactless and safe during COVID-19 times, as you don’t need to go into the store or interact with staff at all.

Ruckus charges a membership fee of $5 per month or $50 a year to use the technology – and to access its fuel at wholesale prices.

“We really want to make it easy for members to save,” Mr Jarvie said.

“By not putting a mark-up on our petrol, we’ve done that.

“Members who filled up with Ruckus, on average each, saved $26 on their bill in September alone – and $90 over a three-month period.

“So, it’s timely to arrive in the Hunter as retail fuel prices in Newcastle have reached such highs over the past week.”

Mr Jarvie expects its new business to be extremely popular in the region.

“People really want to save money without compromising on quality petrol,” he said.

“We’re celebrating our launch in town by hosting a 99c/L fuel day on Wednesday 3 November at BP Hamilton (Tudor Street), BP Wallsend, Ampol Cameron Park, BP Salt Ash and Caltex Kurri Kurri.

“Unleaded, E10 and diesel will be only 99c/L between 6am and 6pm on the day for those using our app.

“At today’s prices, that’s a saving of more $40 on the average 50-litre fill.”

Ruckus is available for download in the App Store and Google Play.
