A pump track for BMX enthusiasts at Gowrie Park is just one of the ideas that’s arisen in initial investigations for the future use of Singleton’s playgrounds.
Another notion centres around a high-quality trail for people to immerse themselves in nature at PA Heuston Apex Lookout Park.
Now, Singleton Council has engaged consultants Michael White Landscape Architecture to undertake the development of masterplans in order to deliver safe, multi-functional recreation spaces at both sites.
But, acting director infrastructure and planning Aaron Malloy admitted the most important factor in the process was community input to ensure the plans met the needs of residents and visitors alike, now and into the future.
Feedback from young people is a particular focus, with a workshop at Singleton Youth Venue on Thursday 6 March from 3.45pm to 4.45pm to encourage youth to have their say about what they want at the parks, particularly in relation to the BMX track and the possibility of a pump track at Gowrie Park.
“The masterplans are important documents because they will set the strategic direction for council’s management of the parks, guide their purpose and use as community spaces and influence council’s future capital works programs and grant applications for funding,” Mr Malloy said.
“That’s why now is the perfect time for anyone who lives near either park, or who is a regular visitor to Gowrie Park or PA Heuston Apex Lookout Park, to dream big about how they could be improved, building on the attributes that currently exist and what they’d like to see moving forward.
“Initial investigations have already suggested that PA Heuston Apex Lookout Park could best serve the community as a passive social gathering space or tourist destination, and Gowrie Park could be the location for a pump track.”
As well as a workshop for young people, neighbouring residents and other interested people are invited to a drop-in session at Gowrie Park on Tuesday 4 March from 4pm to 5pm, and PA Heuston Apex Lookout Park on Thursday 6 March between 9am and 10am.
Everyone is also encouraged to complete a survey for each park by Friday 14 March.
