If you’ve ever shopped at Ramjet Assortments on Cooks Hill’s Darby Street, chances are you’ve been decked out in a fresh look by its owner Michelle Ramsey.
Matching outfits to body-types and personalities is something she does innately.
It is in fact, her self-confessed “superpower” – a skill she has been practicing for the past two decades.
It’s a talent Michelle’s become renowned for since she crossed Darby Street to launch a new career.
She’d been working at an appliance store on the opposite side of the street .
“It was many moons ago now,” she laughs.
“I said ‘I’m going to open a retail store right over there’.”
In 2001 she opened the doors of Ramjet Assortments at 78 Darby Street.

Its name is an amalgamation of her surname and the speed at which she functions, a whirlwind of energy finding the perfect outfit for clients that you’d swear were her lifelong friends.
The vivacious redhead has created an outlet that is filled to the brim with accessories, men and women’s clothing, homewares, shoes, and gifts.
Her stock changes regularly and she prefers items that are not mass-produced.
“I try to only stock one size of each piece so not everyone is walking around in the same outfit,” she says.
“That’s what people come here for.”
The labels in stock at Ramjet Assortments are both Australian and International, and chosen for how well they wear throughout the season.
Michelle’s range has been described as “eclectic, diverse and unpredictable” and that’s exactly what her regular shoppers hope for.
“I buy what I like and that changes all the time,” she said.
“I like stretchy and comfortable, I like clothes that wear well, I like fabrics I don’t have to fuss over and I can travel in.”

Michelle has even launched her own brand Double Trouble, which she stocks in-store.
This collection she says is “cheeky”.
“It’s clothing that should probably come with a language warning but it amuses me to watch parents trying not to laugh while they’ve got their kids with them,” she explained.
Her next project, which she’s hoping to launch in 2023, is regular pre-loved Ramjet clothing meets held in-store.
“So people bring along their preloved Ramjet clothes and swap and sell with others to put a new spin on their own wardrobe,” she said.
“These brands were made to last and I know there are plenty of people out there with Ramjet clothes, and some might be looking for a little freshen up, and this could be fun.”
After having met Michelle for less than 15 minutes I can already say with certainty that fun is what she’s all about.
