These Hunter-based retailers stocking or making reusable fabric masks may be able to help.

Class 84
Swimwear company Class 84 is selling reusable face masks for $15.95 (adults) and $9.95 (kids). Adult and children’s sizes are available in a few prints. The masks are three layers and orders can be made on the Class 84 website.
Sharkskin
Beresfield-based Sharkskin is now selling hydrophobic (water repellent) reusable face masks. Starting from $26, the masks are double layered and feature a pocket where a filter can be added. Go to the Sharkskin website for more info or to purchase.
Alie Jane Travel and Accessories
Alie Jane Travel and Accessories is now selling reusable face masks at $45 each. The masks have elastic ear loops and are double layered. Purchases can be made at the store at 4/200 Hunter Street in Newcastle or via its etsy shop.
CakeEmporiumCo
Based in Redhead, CakeEmporiumCo is selling handmade embroidered face masks for children and adults through its etsy page. The masks are $24.99 each.
Upcycle Newcastle
The team at Upcycle Newcastle is making high quality fabric face masks. Double layer masks are $12, while the triple layer masks are $20.
After ordering, the masks can be picked up from the company at Shed 7D/50 Clyde Street, Hamilton North, or can be posted at the buyer’s expense.
They are also selling kits with a pattern to make your own mask. The kits include fabric, a twist tie wire, and t-shirt cord for ties or ear loops. The kits start at $6 each. Go to the website for more. Â
Fashion Fish
Warners Bay retailer Fashion Fish is now making reusable double layer face masks. The outer layer of the machine washable mask is chlorine proof. Masks are $15 each and come in a variety of sizes, colours and patterns.

Shelbys Accessories
Shelbys Accessories is now making reusable face masks. The cloth masks cost $10 each or can be purchased in bulk packs. For more information, or to make an order, visit the Shelbys Accessories website.
Creative Village Newcastle
Creative Village Newcastle, based at Charlestown Square, also sell reusable cloth face masks. They are all $20 each and triple layered. Some have wires in them, some have ear elastic, others have elastic over the back of the head.
Sido Tailor
Sido Tailor is currently stocking reusable handmade face masks in an array of sizes. Visit its store at Jesmond Central to purchase. Cost is $5 each.
Rundle Tailoring
The team at Rundle Tailoring has been busy sewing reusable face masks. The masks are available in adult or children’s sizes in three layers.
The $20 mask is reversible, you can choose to wear either side as the front layer. It has a wire nose bar to ensure it fits snug to your face and has been designed with fabric ties as these allow for adjustment to your face without being uncomfortable on your ears. Orders can be made online.
Some tips for wearing a mask:
- When putting on a mask, you must wash or sanitise your hands before putting it on.
- Make sure it covers your nose and mouth and fits snugly under your chin, over the bridge of your nose and against the sides of your face.
- Do not touch it while it’s on and do not let it hang around your neck or under your nose.
- When taking off a face mask, wash and sanitise your hands and handle the mask by the ear loops or ties.
- Fold the outside corners together and, if reusable, store in a separate bag until you can take it home and wash it.
- After taking the mask off, you should wash or sanitise your hands again.
