An exciting night of performances, music and art will entertain locals and visitors alike in Maitland this month.
Space Funk! Disco Dystopia is set to liven up Coffin Lane, Central Maitland, on Saturday 27 February between 6pm and 10pm.
“We’re looking forward to it – it should be a great evening,” Maitland City mayor Loretta Baker said.
“The movie being screened was shot in Maitland and is full of locals.
“They’re also doing some filming for a new werewolf picture [on the night].
“I encourage everyone to come down and soak up the atmosphere.”
The family-friendly extravaganza will include mask making, dancing and poetry performers, musicians, artistic exhibitions, filmmaking puppets and space monsters.
The event will also feature a screening of Space Junk! at 9pm and launch the second of Julien Poulson’s film trilogy Space Funk! The Wolf – a werewolf movie set in Maitland.
The exciting project, funded by Maitland City Council’s Creative Streets After Dark program, is brought to you by Poulson.
“To get involved in the fun of the night and filming of Space Funk! The Wolf, everyone is urged to turn up in their best sci-fi fancy dress,” council’s senior place activation officer Portia Wendt said.
The Creative Streets After Dark program aims to support projects that contribute to the night-time economy in Maitland and help create safer and more enjoyable streets.
A comprehensive COVID-19 Safety Plan will be in place for the event.
The organisers will continue to monitor and adhere to the advice from the federal and state governments, including any variation or modification of the public health orders.
