Dylan Lucas has been diagnosed with multiple cartilage fractures in his throat and will join Tyson Frizell in Newcastle’s busy casualty ward.
But, in better news for the depleted Knights, marquee man Dylan Brown will be named to return from his knee injury for their game with the Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium on Sunday 19 April.
Second-rower Lucas is expected to remain sidelined for between four and six weeks.
He suffered his nasty injury in Sunday’s 42-22 loss to fellow improvers Wests Tigers.
Lucas remained in Campbelltown Hospital after the round six clash.
However, he will be discharged and return to Newcastle on Tuesday afternoon (14 April).
It comes as inspirational veteran Frizell prepares to miss three-to-four weeks with the rib injury he suffered against the Tigers.
He had been in great form under new coach Justin Holbrook, running for 166 metres off the bench in the Knights’ round five win over the Canberra Raiders.
The two important forwards join star fullback Kalyn Ponga and centre Bradman Best on the sidelines for Sunday’s clash in Sydney against the Roosters.
Brown’s been absent since the round two defeat of Manly and is set to return on time, with Ponga (hamstring) and Best (groin) due back soon.
