The Scone Thoroughbreds capped off their undefeated season by upstaging the Denman Devils 42-6 in the Bengalla Hunter Valley Group 21 Rugby League grand final on Sunday.
And, in a red-letter day for the organisation, the club claimed all four premierships on offer.
A 12-man reserve grade outfit pipped the Aberdeen Tigers 11-10 in thriller, the under-18s accounted for the same rivals 16-12 and the women’s league taggers prevailed over the Singleton Greyhounds 24-4.
But, in the feature clash, Thoroughbreds led from go to whoa in front of big home crowd.
The Devils’ cause wasn’t helped either after Denman stalwart Adam Grech was sent from the field in the 50th minute for a high shot on Scone playmaker Jake Watts.
However, that incident had little bearing on the scoreline.
Scone, the benchmark side in 2022 under the guidance of former NRL star Adam Clydsdale, led 18-0 at the break in difficult conditions at Scone Park.
They maintained that ascendency in the second period, running in another 24 points while conceding just six.
For the Devils, they tried valiantly in captain-coach Liam Foran’s last match, but the Thoroughbreds possessed too much class across the paddock.
From fullback Hayden Topliss to local legend Daniel Ritter, every Scone player stood tall when it counted most.
