GROUP 21: Four-try haul sets up Greyhounds’ victory

SHARE

A four-try haul by Aporosa Goneboti set up the Singleton Greyhounds impressive 46-22 victory over the Denman Devils in Bengalla Hunter Valley Group 21 Rugby League at the weekend.

The powerful centre, who picked up the players’ player award, had some strong support on the paddock, too, with hooker Harry Reid bagging a double.

Second-rower Morgan Amidy and Blake Trees also found the tryline as Chad Solman booted seven goals in the high-scoring fixture.

For the Devils, centre Travis Bateman touched down twice, with Tyler Wolfgang and Fraser Evans crossing the line as well.

Liam Boney landed a couple of conversions and Evans chipped in with one.

The Muswellbrook Rams snared their second win in three weeks, eclipsing the semi-final bound Aberdeen Tigers 26-22 at Olympic Park.

But, the home side produced an amazing comeback.

Aberdeen led 22-8 at the interval, via a double to centre Matthew Hay, Hugh Collins and Jayden Harshman.

Harry Douglass made no mistake with three shots at goal.

Adam Grew and Jayden Rosberg kept Muswellbrook in the contest with a brace of tries.

The Tigers suffered a blow during the break, losing playmaker Cameron French, compounding the earlier withdrawals of Kyle Smith, Jake Hardy and Hamish Wolfgang.

On top of that, the Rams came out firing.

In no time at all, the team reduced the margin to 22-20 via Callan Cridland and Chanel Mata’utia-Leifi, with Bailey Ellis converting both attempts.

With the Aberdeen troops tiring, Cridland then outpaced his rival to dive over between the uprights. Ellis stepped up to the mark to put Muswellbrook ahead 26-22.

The Tigers threw everything at the Rams, who hung on for a major upset triumph.

Competition leaders Scone Thoroughbreds received the bye.
