Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter and musician Tyler Childers will headline the inaugural Howlin’ Country festival in Newcastle next year.
While his eagerly-anticipated Mule Pull Tour kicks off in New Zealand, with further gigs in Australia, he’ll find time in between shows to venture to Foreshore Park on Saturday 15 February.
There, he will join the likes of Brad Cox, Sons Of The East, Taylor Moss and locally-based star Austin Mackay on the program, along with the Cheap Whiskey DJs.
Promoter Greg Mathew said he was “ecstatic” about the Hunter location.
“I’m originally from a farm at Wagga Wagga… and that’s what made me fall in love with Newcastle,” he explained.
“It will always have a strong connection to the country.
“To me, it feels like a big country town with a beach.
“It’s about time Newcastle had an event celebrating that connection.
“We hope that as Howlin’ develops its identity, it will provide a unique experience and day out for local country fans of all ages to introduce their friends to a genre that’s exploding globally.”
Childers is “one of country music’s most compelling and unpredictable artists”, according to Associated Press.
Adding to an already triumphant career, he released his new album, Rustin’ In The Rain, which includes the Grammy and ACM-nominated single In Your Love.
That track has garnered more than 10 million video views to date, 180 million on-demand streams and received praise from outlets such as NPR Music, Billboard, Pitchfork, Stereogum, The Advocate and Rolling Stone, who declared it “the music video of compassion and caring we need right now”.
Since his 2017 breakthrough long player Purgatory, Childers has unveiled three additional albums and performed countless sold-out shows across the world.
Tickets are now on sale to the general public.
