The family rocked by the death of Mmalerato “Mallis” Harrison in an industrial accident at Woolworths Jesmond is turning to the community for financial aid.
In tragic circumstances, the much-loved local woman lost her life in a workplace incident on Friday 25 November.
Mallis’ sudden passing not only shocked those who knew her best but also led to an outpouring of grief on social media.
Now, close friend Tiana Campbell has established a GoFundMe page – with a goal of $20,000 – to support the Harrison family in their time of need.
“We are hoping to raise money for funeral costs and memorial arrangements for her husband Glenn, two gorgeous stepchildren and twin sister Lerato,” she said.
“Anything to ease the stress on them.
“This is already an extremely difficult time, not to mention a Christmas without their spark Mmalerato.”
So far, more than 120 people have amassed over $7,000, with someone making an anonymous $1,000 donation.
“Death is sad, hard and, when one is innocently going to work contributing to the community, it is a devastating loss,” Ms Campbell said.
“But, Mallis loved and lived life to the fullest.
“Nothing was too small or too big; whatever she put her mind to you bet she would achieve it.
“Of course, she possessed the world’s biggest smile on her face that was so infectious… and the brightest red lipstick that one could ever want.
“Mallis was well-known within the Newcastle community and around the world where she worked as a beauty therapist, support worker and cleaner.
“In fact, she was working three jobs recently.
“Mallis had this incredible calming nature that would put anyone at ease and wise words for anyone in need.
“She was truly one of a kind.”
