Young People’s Theatre Newcastle will be presenting BUNYIPS, A Big Beautiful Mess of a Play during the upcoming school holidays.
Based on the Australian Children’s book Naked Bunyip Dancing by Steven Herrick, the 65-minute production takes a comical look at the ups and downs of being a kid in Year 6.
The original book has been adapted for stage by former YPT Newcastle student Callan Purcell who is currently performing in the original Australian cast of Hamilton at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre.
The production, showcasing 40 YPT students, sees Class 6C bursting at the seams to express themselves, but they do not know how until Mr. Carey brings his yoga, sage and Shakespeare, and things are never the same again.
“Watch these kids rap, dance, speak in bird language and dream their way through Year 6,” YPT Associate Director Chelsea Willis says.
BUNYIPS, A Big Beautiful Mess of a Play will be performed at YPT Theatre in Hamilton from Tuesday 29 June to Thursday 17 July.
