Generous Wallsend man to spread the cheer with $230,000 win

A kind-hearted Newcastle man is keen to “share the love” after snaring a $230,000 Keno bounty last week.

The Wallsend resident tasted success in the Classic 9 Spot Jackpot on Thursday 18 June.

And, he now looks forward to collecting a tidy sum of $230,680.10.

But, the local didn’t realise his good fortune at first.

He initially left the venue before checking his ticket… and it wasn’t until the next day he discovered his windfall.

“How lucky am I?” he laughed.

“I put it on [yesterday] but left before the draw.

“I did see there was a win and I wondered if it could be me, but I thought ‘surely not’.

“It was quite the shock when I checked my ticket.

“I’ll definitely be celebrating. I only started using these numbers recently, too.”

When asked how he planned to use his six-figure sum, the man thought of his nearest and dearest first.

“I have quite a large family, so I’ll just be using it to help them,” he explained.

“These days you need all the help you can get, so I’m happy to put my prize towards others.”

His winning Keno Classic entry was purchased from the West Wallsend Workers Club in Carrington Street.

In 2025, players across the eastern states celebrated more than 78 million wins, collectively worth in excess of $1.2 billion.

During this time, Keno crowned 17 millionaires and multi-millionaires who took home more than $40.8 million.

Eleven of these major winners were from NSW and the ACT.
