Greek-Australian eco-gardening superstar Costa Georgiadis will headline an expanded Living Smart Festival in Lake Macquarie to help celebrate the landmark event’s 10th anniversary.
The ABC’s Gardening Australia host is set to appear throughout the festival’s main Saturday activities on 28 September, talking about sustainable living, catching up with fans, and helping to judge the popular school gardens competition.
“I want people to walk away with a few simple changes that will set the domino effect into place in their family, work and neighbourhood communities,” Georgiadis said.
“This event is a chance to pick up lots of little ideas and actions that we can all do every day to make a difference.”
Lake Macquarie mayor Kay Fraser said Georgiadis’ inclusion in this year’s line-up was a perfect fit to mark 10 years of the festival’s growth and success.
“Lake Mac’s Living Smart Festival has become one of the biggest and best environmentally-focused annual community events in Australia,” Cr Fraser said.
“So, it seemed only right to secure one of the biggest and best names in sustainable living for our 2019 instalment.”
This year’s festival will see a return of the successful Feast for the Senses on Friday 27 September, with guests treated to a five-star meal under the stars in Speers Point Park, featuring a menu of locally sourced and sustainably farmed food.
The Saturday main event will feature a day packed with fascinating workshops, cooking demonstrations, eco-living displays, guest appearances, food and market stalls, plant giveaways and the popular kids’ zone.
For the first time, this year’s event will feature a family-friendly Sunday program of live music, entertainment and other activities.
Further festival details, features and acts will be released closer to the date.
