GALLERY: Small club with a big heart

Maitland VIEW Club is a small organisation but one with a big heart.

Founded more than five decades ago, the group now boasts 19 members between the ages of 40 and 85.

However, newcomers are very welcome to join any time.

“VIEW stands for Voice, Interests and Education of Women,” Maitland VIEW Club publicity officer Fiona Bell said.

“We support several disadvantaged children, through The Smith Family charity.

“The club raises funds through raffles, trading tables and monthly member donations.

“We also assist each other – helping with transport, sending cards to those unwell and following the VIEW oath: I pledge to promote the interests of VIEW, to extend friendship to all and to help those in need.”

The organisation’s next big event will be the club’s 56th birthday lunch on 25 August.

“We’re looking forward to the occasion,” Ms Bell said.

“Many other Hunter VIEW club members will travel to join us on 25 August, with entertainment, a trading table and a two-course meal.

“It’s an exciting milestone, one which we’re very proud of.”

The Maitland VIEW Club meets on the fourth Wednesday of every month at the East Maitland Bowling Club from 10.30am.

Members enjoy interesting guest speakers as well as regular social outings.

On top of that, the organisation hosts a brunch/morning tea at various cafes and a luncheon every month between the monthly meetings.
