Have you been down to Merewether Beach to check out the Rip Curl Newcastle Cup presented by Corona?

The competition drew 52 world-class surfers to the City to take part in the 2021 WSL Championship Tour event, including John John Florence, Owen Wright, Sally Fitzgibbons, Julian Wilson and locals Ryan Callinan, Philippa Anderson, Jackson Baker and Morgan Cibilic.
And, it’ll be Merewether champ versus Merewether rookie though in the quarter-final, as Callinan and Cibilic both won their round of 16 heats this morning (Friday 9 April).
Cibilic took down Wade Carmichael by 5.67 points while Callinan narrowly defeated Owen Wright by 1.8.
As for the women, Isabella Nichols and Keely Andrew are through to the semi-finals while Johanne Defay, Carissa Moore, Bronte Macaulay and Caroline Marks were fighting it out for the remaining spots.
