GALLERY: Hugo has 100 reasons to smile after Goannas win

Cessnock Goannas star Reed Hugo certainly knows how to commemorate a milestone match.

In his debut, the powerful second-rower not only enjoyed a win over the Western Suburbs Rosellas, he posted a try, too.

One-hundred matches later, in Tooheys Newcastle Rugby League (Real NRL), the club captain was at it again at the weekend.

Hugo celebrated a 26-22 come-from-behind Goannas’ victory over the Wyong Roos at the Cessnock Sportsground.

And, for good measure, he dived over for a four-pointer, along with Tyrone Nean, Josh Charles and Jarred Anderson, who grabbed a double.

“It’s an awesome place [Cessnock],” Hugo said.

“It has been that way since the first game I played here.

“The community gets behind the Goannas, while the officials and staff all work tirelessly every week.

“I love the camaraderie here.

“So, it’s rewarding to not only record my 100th [appearance] but come out and play for the club week-in, week-out.”

Hugo’s achievement – and triumph – slightly overshadowed that of Roos’ stalwart Mitch Williams.

The legendary Wyong footballer notched up his 250th match for the Central Coast outfit.

Meanwhile, competition frontrunners Maitland Pickers acknowledged Old Boys Day on Saturday with a resounding 44-6 win at the expense of the Kurri Kurri Bulldogs.

Twenty-four hours later, the Central Newcastle Butcher Boys handed out a 30-16 lesson to the Macquarie Scorpions, The Entrance Tigers kept its slim semi-final hopes alive by accounting for the Western Suburbs Rosellas 12-8 and the Lakes United Seagulls upset the South Newcastle Lions 22-10.
