The Northern Hawks are the toast of Port Stephens after capturing the Tooheys Newcastle Rugby League (Real NRL) reserve grade crown at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday.
Inspired by captain-coach Brad Tighe, former Newcastle Knight Tyler Randell and blockbusting second-rower Joshua Toole, the outfit shut-out the Western Suburbs Rosellas 20-0 in a clinical display.
After leading 8-0 at the interval, the Hawks added another two converted tries in the second period to secure victory.
“That was a great effort,” Tighe said.
“I’m really proud of the boys.
“They’ve worked hard throughout the season – and it’s paid off [today].
“This result, as well as the talented young blokes coming through the ranks, puts the club in good stead moving forward.”
Toole was deemed best on the park.
Meanwhile, the future looks bright for the Rosellas and Lakes United Seagulls after the clubs turned on a brilliant battle in the under-19 finale.
In the end, Western Suburbs pipped their rivals 22-16.
But, the talent on show from both organisations was impressive, none more so than Rosellas five-eighth Travis May, who was named man of the match.
In first grade, the Maitland Pickers over-powered the Macquarie Scorpions 40-4.
Prop Jayden Butterfield walked away with the individual honours after an outstanding performance.
