Belmont Christian College students lined up thousands of silver and gold pieces this week for their annual Coins for Compassion fundraiser.

The initiative has raised more than $65,000 over the past decade, supporting children in Indonesia and the Philippines.

This year, the school aimed to raise $10,000 to continue sponsoring five kids and contribute to non-for-profit Compassion Australia’s Unsponsored Children Fund.

Pupils across all year levels took part in the event on Friday 4 July, with primary students lining up the thousands of coins.

Meanwhile, the secondary youngsters staged a fete with stalls, games and even a dunk tank.

In the lead-up to the day, many pupils took on additional challenges to raise extra funds, including cake stands.

Compassion Australia CEO Clare Steele was present on the day, praising the students for their hard efforts.

Teacher Sue Fryer said the program taught pupils about more than just fundraising.

“Coins for Compassion is not just about raising funds,” she explained.

“It’s about shaping hearts.

“Our students are learning how their small acts can have a global impact.”

Belmont Christian College’s partnership with Compassion Australia has been in place for more than 25 years, with the annual event becoming a practical way for pupils to put their values into action while contributing to an international cause.
