Future vision for art gallery

SHARE

It has been a decade since the redevelopment of the Maitland Regional Art Gallery (MRAG), and Maitland City Council is looking to the future.

The council has been collecting community feedback to help shape the gallery into 2025 and beyond.

In targeting key groups such as young people, people with disability, Aboriginal people and people from cultural and linguistically diverse communities, the council will be looking to identify the barriers to participation, visitation and access to the gallery, as well as its programs and services.  “We want to know what the Maitland community wants and needs from their Gallery – we want to understand how we can better serve our community,” Gallery Coordinator Kattie Bugeja said.

A survey, titled Maitland 2020-2025, will identify the community’s aspirations for the gallery, and also provide an insight into why some people do not visit the gallery.

To have your say, visit maitland.nsw.gov.au by 30 November to complete the survey or head into Rutherford Marketplace today (Thursday 31 October) and share your thoughts.

The gallery was officially opened in 2009 and, to celebrate this milestone, it launched an exhibition series called X Marks the Spot.

It is a series of eight exhibitions and two other installations, including Brett Piva’s mural Remnants before the Tasman and Nell’s Made in the Light – Happy Cloud and Drips.

Entry is free. Visit mrag.org.au for more information.
