Funlab and headspace team up to bowl over a Day of Fun

Two of the Hunter region’s most fun-est places are lending a hand to help raise $300,000 for an important cause.

By heading out for a night of ten-pin bowling or indoor mini-golf on Tuesday 5 September, fun-lovers will be donating $5 to national youth mental health organisation, headspace.

Funlab’s annual Day of Fun has raised more than $1 million for headspace since 2016.

By offering discounts at 44 popular entertainment venues across the nation, organisers hope to continue to fund headspace’s Online Communities, a real-time peer-led group chat service held by young people, for young people.

Peer Support Moderators from across Australia are trained to provide support and online moderation on topics including: navigating relationships, coping with tough times, Work and Study and supporting LGBTQIA+ young people.

In the past year, online communities were used more than 110,000 times and ran 153 peer chats on said topics.

Funlab CEO Michael Schreiber said Funlab wants to bring back the “fun” in fundraising.

“To raise over $1 million would be a momentous achievement, a testament to the dedication of Aussies who’ve contributed over the past seven years, and a reflection of the unwavering commitment of the Funlab team to reach this milestone,” he explained.

“We want to encourage everyone to jump online and book an activity slot at their local Funlab for $5, or come down on the day, and get involved.

“This is an opportunity for us to not only raise funds for a very important charity, but to support youth mental health, while providing a fun experience for friends and families.”

headspace CEO Jason Trethowan said Day of Fun was one of the charity’s largest fundraising events of the year and, annually, continued to exceed expectations.

“We know connecting with others and making time for the things you enjoy are important steps for maintaining good mental health,” he added.

“Day of Fun is a terrific opportunity to do just that while also raising funds to support vital youth mental health programs here at headspace.

“The $1 million dollars Funlab will have raised for headspace over the past seven years helps make it possible for headspace to provide mental health support to young people, when and where they need it most.”

This year participants in the Hunter region can enjoy activities at Charlestown’s Holey Moley and Strike Bowling.
