Fundraiser to cure the Bali blues

SHARE

COVID-19 travel restrictions have left many dreaming of an island escape, so Newcastle-based organisation Corethics has come up with an alternative to help people through their Bali blues.

The social enterprise will host its third annual film fundraiser event on Saturday 24 October, with films from Australian and Indonesian filmmakers, where all the proceeds will be donated to support access to clean water in Bali, Indonesia.

The event will screen the ReelOzInd! Short Film Festival, a short film competition featuring rising filmmakers.

Corethics Founder Melissa McCabe said that, by attending the event, you would be supporting Australian and Indonesian filmmakers while also raising funds for the water crisis in Bali.

“Tourism accounts for around 65% of the water use in Bali and us Aussies are in the top three most frequent flyers to the Island of the Gods,” Ms McCabe said.

“For all those Novocastrians who have had the pleasure of visiting Bali, now is the time for us to give back.

“During this global pandemic, access to clean water has never been more important.”

Guests will also be treated to a ‘Water Talk’, giving them an opportunity to learn more about what Corethics does and why IDEP Foundation’s Bali Water Protection Program solves the water crisis issue faced by the Balinese.

The fundraiser will be hosted at Event Cinemas Kotara from 5pm to 8.30pm.

Tickets are $55 or $90 (includes food and drink) for adults or $20 or $55 (includes food and drink) for children.

Each 10-minute film screened during the festival are rated G or PG, making it appropriate for children to attend.

Ms McCabe hoped that locals would support the cause in any way they could.

“If you cannot attend the screening through the booking system, you can buy raffle tickets or even just donate,” she said.
