Fuel thrown on man as Singleton home set alight

A 41-year-old man allegedly doused another with fuel before setting a Singleton home alight at the weekend.

Emergency services were called to Castlereagh Street about 5.30pm on Sunday 9 November following reports of a fire.

At the scene, police received details the male threw gas on a 68-year-old person known to him.

The older man then rinsed the fuel from his body, remaining uninjured.

A short time later, flames were seen coming from the premises.

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) personnel soon extinguished the blaze.

However, the house was destroyed.

The younger man was arrested and taken to Cessnock Police Station.

During a search, officers claimed they located methamphetamine on him.

He was subsequently charged with throw/lay down etc explosive etc with intent to maim/do grievous bodily harm (DV); damage property by fire/explosion greater than $15000 (DV); and possess prohibited drug.

After being refused bail, he’ll appear before Bail Division Court 2 on Monday 10 November.
