This spring weather is right up my alley – it’s now warm enough to just wear a t-shirt and shorts and sit outside without getting roasted by the sun or carried away by flies and mosquitoes.
There is, of course, one slight problem: magpies. I, surprisingly, haven’t copped it yet this season as the push bike remains gathered in dust in the garage.
However, I did witness one poor redheaded child running for his life at the park on the weekend, with the black-and-white alpha of the sky in hot pursuit.

Moving indoors, our cover star this week – Wallsend’s Jeff Carr – spends countless hours making his unique creations while most of us are sound asleep.
The father-of-four has made more than a dozen pieces of wooden art in the past 12 months, including a eagle with a two-metre wing span, a five-foot woman drinking coffee, a motorbike complete with a COVID-19 number plate, and a giant squid with tentacles that stretch more than three feet in length.
