From the editor: lazy long weekend

It was great to see so many people smiling and enjoying the warm weather over the long weekend.

My brother and I went for a day trip to the Central Coast to visit my dad on Sunday.

As I’ve mentioned in previous columns, it’s the simple things that I have been appreciating more this year.

We grabbed a coffee near the beach, walked up a hill to look out over the city, and had a delicious lunch before heading home.

Then, on Monday afternoon, we joined hundreds of others at Bar Beach to soak up the sunshine and have a swim.

I hope the time off left you and your family feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the last few months of a crazy year.

This week’s cover stars, Kyden and Leo Ralph and volunteer Maddy Bartlett, are promoting Camp Quality’s Big Walk for Little Kids.

The virtual walking challenge for all fitness levels encourages participants to complete either 25, 50 or 100 kilometres this month to show support for children facing cancer. Read more on page 12.

We have also covered Orange Sky Laundry’s ‘Sudsy Challenge’; an exhibition that showcases Maitland’s sporting history; and NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian’s visit to Newcastle to unveil the concept design for a $780 million John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct.
